A Tour of Select Downtown Art Galleries Leads Audiences On A Scavenger Hunt To Find Artwork That Matches Each Musical Selection In Sarasota Concert Band's "Magic of Music and ART" Event At The Glenridge Performing Arts Center on Nov 17

2012-10-23
SARASOTA, FL, October 23, 2012 (Press-News.org) What is better than listening to a 50 piece professional concert band playing adventurous, stimulating and entertaining music? Going on a scavenger hunt through downtown galleries looking for the artwork that "matches" each musical selection!

The Sarasota Concert Band opens its 2012 - 2013 season series (The Magic of Music and the Arts) with "The Magic of Music and ART" at the Glenridge Performing Arts Center on November 17th. Each musical selection has been paired with a piece of artwork in one of five downtown art galleries: Art Uptown Gallery (1367 Main St.), Dabbert Gallery (76 Palm Ave.), Galleria Silecchia (20 Palm Ave.) Hodgell Gallery (46 Palm Ave.) and Stakenborg Fine Art (1545 Main St.).

Audiences will individually visit these locations, searching for the visual art to match the musical art. They'll get their "Art Tour Contest" card filled with the correct answers and bring it with them to the Band's performance for a chance to win a prize! It could be a "Night On The Town", a "Dinner for Two" or a "Day At The Spa"!

People will enjoy finding artwork that matches the musical selections on the program such as "Scenes From the Louvre" (Dello Joio), "Hymn to Red October" (Poledouris), and "Blow, Gabriel, Blow" (Porter). They may also find glass pieces for "Big Band Bash - Artistry in Motion" (Lowden) and "Selections from Annie - The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow" (Strouse).

"Audiences love concert band music because it's invigorating, energizing and refreshing", says William Barbanera, Artistic Director. "It's classical, sing-able and even jazzy. There's something for everyone so they leave feeling great about life." Music and Art join together on Saturday, November 17th, at the Glenridge Performing Arts Center, 7333 Scotland Way, in Sarasota. The concert starts at 8 pm. The cost is $15 with reserved seating. Tickets are available at the door and online at http://www.GPACtix.com.

Sarasota Concert Band is one of the "Top 5" professional concert bands in the world with Ringling roots back to 1925. As a 50 piece wind and percussion ensemble, our mission is to entertain Sarasota audiences so that they feel good about life. (941-364-2263). http://www.SarasotaConcertBand.org.
