GREENCASTLE, IN, October 24, 2012 (Press-News.org) Baker's Body Shop knows that motor vehicle crashes are the number one killer of 15 to 20 year-olds. In addition to this overwhelming fact there are several other alarming statistics related to teen driving.
Alarming Statistics*
• Auto crashes claim nearly 3,000 young lives every year
• Of all drivers aged 15-24 years of age involved in fatal crashes, 32% were speeding
• 82% of fatal crashes with 16 year-old drivers are due to driver error
• 37% of fatal crashes with 16 year-old drivers are directly related to speeding
• 19,076 15 to 19 year-olds were killed in crashes between 2000-2006
• Over 350,000 teens are treated each year in emergency departments for injuries resulting from a crash
With these alarming statistics and a 15 year-old son currently driving under a learner's permit, Baker's Body Shop Owner, Larry Baker Jr., understands the importance of taking the necessary steps to steer teen drivers in the right direction. Parents are the key to putting a decline in the overwhelming statistics on teen driver fatalities and crashes.
Baker's Body Shop is proud to announce that it is now carrying CarChip Pro, a device that allows parents to monitor their teen driver's speeding and driving tendencies. CarChip Pro is a data logger that records vehicle trip and performance data to provide a detailed listing of driver performance and vehicle operation. Recorded data includes; trip start and end times, vehicle speeds, rates of acceleration and braking, and any detected OBDII trouble codes. CarChip Pro also includes logging of additional engine data parameters and detailed "accident" data for all sudden stops. It can also emit an audible alarm whenever a driver exceeds user-determined speed limits.
Teen motor vehicle crashes are preventable and proven strategies can keep young drivers safer on the road. Baker's Body Shop hopes that by installing CarChip Pro, parents will be able to better monitor their teen drivers and guide them accordingly. The CarChip Pro can be paired with many different new mobile apps to stop texting and driving to offer additional safety to a parent's young driver.
