ST. CHARLES, MO, October 24, 2012 (Press-News.org) St. Charles, MO - In one small mountain village in Honduras, unemployment hovers at 70%, children go hungry, and families struggle to provide the most basic necessities. One local charity, Just Because We Care, is on a mission to combat the cycle of poverty there, and is hosting a Trivia Night to help support families in the poverty-stricken community. The event, which is in its first year, will be held on November 17th at St. Charles Borromeo and will feature prizes, a silent auction, a lottery tree, refreshments and much more.
All proceeds raised at the event will go to support "Just Because We Care," a not for profit co-founded by Bob and Diane Wamhoff to serve children in the Honduran mountain town. Since its inception, the organization has received national attention for its wide-range of efforts which include supplying food, water, health care, new homes, renovations to the school house, a scholarship program and even a new vocational school for students to continue their education.
"In just ten short years, we've been able to make a significant impact and begin changing lives on the mountain," said Bob Wamhoff, president of Wamhoff Financial Planning & Accounting Services and co-founder of "Just Because We Care." "We now feed the children five days a week, have seen enrollment in school increase from 90 to 134 students, and test scores improve from 59% to over 90%. While we've made so much progress, there is still a great deal of work to do. With the support of those who attend our fundraisers, we can continue to works towards ending the cycle of poverty."
Doors will open 6PM; followed by a 10 round trivia event kicking off at 7PM. Tickets cost $25 per person or $200 for a table of 8 and include complimentary draft beer, soda and water. St. Charles Borromeo is located at 601 North Fourth Street, in St. Charles, MO. If you are interested in attending or you would like to know more about sponsorship opportunities, please contact Peggyann Mueller at 636-573-1226 or pmueller@wamhoff.com.
