INDIANAPOLIS, IN, October 25, 2012 (Press-News.org) Known for his background as a professional designer from product development to retail environments, Mr. Spaulding also is sought after for his project management and ability to generate new business. After launching his small design boutique from his college dorm room at Purdue University, JSDC Inc. grew into one of Indiana's most successful product design firms landing projects with clients such as Ford Motor Co., Walmart, Apple, and Samsung, just to name a few. Ten years later JSDC was bought out by one of the largest consumer electronics companies in the world, utilizing their skillset for its own New Product Division. This corporate transition allowed Mr. Spaulding to engage and assist in creating new products with other designers and firms leading to the creation of his latest endeavor-STORM Design Management & Consulting. "Design management is a practice that exists globally and utilized more heavily outside of the US," he begins, "US firms tend to create internal departments for this task or a single employee, placing themselves at a great disadvantage because of the man hours spent on management related agendas instead of design. We allow designers to do what they do best, and that is design."
When asked why Indianapolis was the ideal choice for his latest venture Mr. Spaulding replied, "Location, primarily because Indy plays as center stage for current projects we are pursuing and clients we desire to work alongside. Also Indy is at a very pivotal stage of growth right now and we know that we can utilize this to enhance our service and expand as well." As co-founder, Spaulding plans to utilize his roots here in Indy to launch yet another successful firm and contribute to the design community as a whole.
Not only does STORM focus on designers needing management, they also have a B2B end that focuses on connecting those in need of design services with qualified designers and firms. "Knowing what discipline of design to seek out and also how to eliminate those under qualified to carry out your project to completion, is a skill in itself. " Mr. Spaulding states, as he explains why he felt this end of STORM would be beneficial to several local businesses. "We educate and allow our clients to make decisions based on skill-set and ability of designers, not marketing ploys and flashy catchphrases used to attract business. This not only helps them but protects the design community and the profession of "design."
