D2 Technologies Chairman David Wong to be Distinguished Lecturer at University of California, Santa Barbara

Wong to keynote an event celebrating UCSB Electrical and Computer Engineering's 50th anniversary

2012-10-26
SANTA BARBARA, CA, October 26, 2012 (Press-News.org) D2 Technologies, the market leader in embedded IP communications software platforms, today announced that chairman and CEO David Wong is the University of California, Santa Barbara Electrical and Computer Engineering's distinguished lecturer celebrating the department's 50th anniversary. His presentation, "From Voice Processing Research to Serial Startups," will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 2 in Room 1001 of the Engineering Science Building at UCSB.

Through educational opportunities at UCSB, Wong participated in the earliest stages of technology development for the Internet, and was part of the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPA) team that completed the first phone call over Arpanet, the progenitor of today's global Internet, in 1974. After serving for a short time as a UCSB instructor and research engineer on voice compression algorithms, he left academics to help build the first voice mail system based on the UNIX operating system. He then went on to create several technology startups before founding D2 Technologies in 1993. During his talk, he will discuss his transition from academics to entrepreneurism - and the highs and lows he experienced along the way.

Wong earned a BSEE, MSEE and PhD from UCSB. He helped spearhead the College of Engineering's Technology Management Program, and currently serves on three College of Engineering boards. In 2007, Wong was presented with UCSB's Alumni Award to acknowledge his generosity and service.

Those interested in attending Wong's lecture should submit an RSVP to Gibson-admin@ece.ucsb.edu.
