HOUSTON, TX, October 26, 2012 (Press-News.org) Agnes De Mille once stated "living is a form of not being sure, not knowing what next or how. The artist never entirely knows. We guess. We may be wrong, but we take leap after leap in the dark." This poignant sentiment of discovery describes the creative path of self-published author Brian Bowers. Five years after graduating from Oberlin College, Bowers has positioned himself to release his first book, Shadows Chasing Light, on December 3, 2012.
In 2008, following a semester abroad in Egypt, Bowers began what he has described as "exploring creativity to unify the human experience." With interests in publishing other authors, he founded 5th Principle Productions ThoughtPress to publish works that had been overlooked by mainstream publishing channels. Little did he know--the first work he would publish would be his own.
In his foreword to the book, Professor Justin Emeka of Oberlin College states "Mr. Bowers guides us through a complex tapestry of thoughts, images and feelings felt by an entire generation standing at the cross-roads of self-discovery." Shadows Chasing Light is a provocative collection of poems and angular prose peering deep into the transmutation of a young man 'coming of age"--an age enabling him to embrace and champion his own self-expression as well as that of others. Accompanying each set of poems, Bowers features the delicately nuanced artwork of visual artist Jasmine Powell.
With a title inspired by a line from Rabindranath Tagore's Gitanjali, the poetic narrative captures snapshots of grief, happiness, love and an infinite longing for the unseen. In addition to writing, the self-proclaimed 'multi-medium' artist is also a singer, pianist and amateur photographer. The author currently resides in Houston, Texas and looks forward to exploring the world through creativity, thus broadening his knowledge and experience of spirituality, life, love and the human experience. Shadows Chasing Light will be available for purchase via http://www.thoughtpress.co and Amazon.
Shadows Chasing Light is published by 5th Principle Productions ThoughtPress, ISBN 978-0-9882117-0-4
5th Principle Productions ThoughtPress is an independent publishing company catering towards independent authors and writers of all genres. More broadly speaking, it is a launching pad and safe space for independent authors, writers and "word artists" to express their ideas, thoughts and offer encouragement to those who have similar aspirations.
