IRVINE, CA, November 02, 2012 (Press-News.org) Stanbridge College, a technical college that offers Masters, Bachelor and Associate of Science degrees and diploma programs in Allied Health and Information Technology, collected Halloween costumes and accessories and donated them to 75 homeless children in Orange County. The donations were distributed through the Family Resource Program at Illumination Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides solutions to homelessness. The children received costumes and accessories to help them trick or treat and celebrate Halloween.
"For most children, Halloween and the holidays in general, are a time filled with fun and excitement," stated Ashley Krebs, Communications and Development Assistant at Illumination Foundation. "For children living in poverty, this time of year can be just another reminder that they are going without. By providing something as simple as a Halloween costume, Stanbridge College has given these children an opportunity to forget their circumstances and enjoy the holiday like any other child."
The Illumination Foundation provides integrated services to the homeless and needy in Orange County. Through its housing, healthcare and outreach services, IF has supported 598 families, 899 adults and 542 children since its establishment in 2008.
Serving solutions to homelessness is one of the many focuses of Stanbridge College REACH - Beyond the Classroom Service Learning and Civic Engagement initiative. Stanbridge students and staff have volunteered time and raised funds for several non-profits helping homeless adults, families and veterans in Orange County. In 2011 and 2012, Stanbridge donated food and helped serve over 250 homeless people with a warm meal each month at Lighthouse Ministries in Costa Mesa.
