NEW YORK, NY, November 02, 2012 (Press-News.org) Patricia Gerbarg, MD and Richard P. Brown, MD, award-winning authors and leaders in Complementary and Alternative Medicine for psychiatry, will teach "The Language of Breath: How Respiratory Messages Improve Emotion Regulation" November 2-4, 2012 at Confer UK, an international conference which brings the world's leading researchers and healthcare practitioners together to explore how yoga can be used in a therapeutic context. As keynote speakers, Dr. Gerbarg and Dr. Brown will introduce participants to theoretical background, research evidence, and clinical applications of powerful self-regulation strategies to improve the well-being of practitioners as well as that of their patients. They will review the use of Breath~Body~Mind techniques to relieve symptoms of stress and trauma among survivors of mass disasters such as the 2004 Southeast Asian tsunami, earthquake in Haiti, the New York World Trade Center disaster, the Horizon Gulf oil spill, victims of war and slavery in South Sudan, and genocide survivors in Rwanda.
In addition, Dr. Gerbarg will conduct a workshop on integrating mind-body practices with standard psychotherapy treatments. The workshop format will be primarily discussion with questions and answers.
Dr. Brown will lead experiential practices including gentle Qigong movements, Coherent Breathing, Resistance Breathing (Ujjayi or Ocean Breath), and Breath Moving, followed by Open Focus meditation. How to build upon this knowledge and use it in clinical practice will be discussed.
More about the conference can be read at confer.uk.com on the Internet.
