Biscom Delivery Server Helps Dana-Farber Solve Secure File Transfer Challenges

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Solves E-mail Attachment Limitation Challenges and Security Concerns with Biscom Delivery Server

2010-10-14
CHELMSFORD, MA, October 14, 2010 (Press-News.org) Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a world-renown, Boston-based research facility that employs nearly 4,000 people supporting more than 300,000 patient visits a year, has solved major challenges in collaborating and exchanging research data among a variety of hospitals and research institutions located globally.

Matthew Temple, Director of Research Computing at Dana Farber, was tasked with the challenge to easily enable Research departments, which work almost exclusively with collaborators at universities, institutes, and hospitals around the world, to transfer large amounts of data quickly and securely. "A user would receive a grant, which hogged the user's mailbox, then couldn't tell anyone about winning the grant because operations shut off any inbound or outbound traffic to the filled mailbox," Temple said. "Because FDA, NIH, and some collaborators are located outside Dana-Farber, the inability to communicate impeded progress. People don't want to send files in an unsecured format," added Temple.

"We're glad that we can play a part in helping DFCI researchers collaborate with outside parties, who are all trying to eradicate a devastating disease," said Bill Ho, VP at Biscom. Ho added, "It's nice to know that we've been able to provide a secure solution that removes file sharing impediments, enabling researchers to focus their time on curing cancer."

Since its implementation 2008, Dana Farber has had great success with BDS. "It is a beautiful and elegant tool anyone can use," says Temple.
