Boiler MACT: The Facts Every Paper Company and Investor Need to Know

Strategic Analysts, a consulting firm servicing the paper and forest products industry, has released a new White Paper on the EPA's Boiler MACT rules. The new rules starting in December 2010, may cost the industry between $10-$50 billion.

2010-10-14
SPRINGBORO, OH, October 14, 2010 (Press-News.org) Paper and forest products companies in the United States have been one of the hardest hit segments of the economy during this economic downturn. Some products have seen demand decline as much as 30% since 2007. Yet, starting this December paper companies are facing what could be an even greater challenge than the downturn, complying with the EPA's new Boiler MACT (Maximum Achievable Control Technology) rules. This is could cost United States forest products manufacturers between $10 billion and $50 billion in the upcoming years. To help paper companies and their investors better understand the facts, Strategic Analysts is releasing a new white paper entitled "Boiler MACT, What are the Facts?"

Rick Merdan, an associate at Strategic Analysts who authored the white paper explains, "Boiler MACT is an amendment to the 1990 Clean Air Act which the EPA passed in June placing stricter limits on Hazardous Air Pollutants." Merdan continues, "For forest products companies in the United States this means billions of dollars in control and monitoring technologies which need to be purchased to meet these requirements. Our mission at Strategic Analysts is to help understand the impact of these laws for investors and work with manufacturers to become compliant in the most efficient way possible."

"This is part of a new series of white papers we will be releasing to clients covering a variety of timely topics in the forest products industry," says Michael Marziale, PhD, Strategic Analysts Senior Partner. "Each month we will release white papers on topics like environmental regulations, electronic substitution, sustainability, and a host of other topics."

The Strategic Analysts environmental team can help you understand and prepare for the impact of Boiler MACT on your business or investments.
