TempleTouch Thermometers When Kids Get Sick, What's a Working Mom to Do?

Survey conducted by TempleTouch Thermometers reveals what working mothers do when their children get sick

2010-10-14
HOLLY SPRINGS, NC, October 14, 2010 (Press-News.org) A recent survey of 324 mothers who work full-time (and are also "mommy bloggers") was conducted in September 2010 by TempleTouch thermometers.
The subject of the survey was to find out what working mothers do about their jobs when their children become sick.

Key Findings:

• In this economy, working mothers feel more pressure to go to work rather than stay home with their sick children
• 60% of working moms are given less than seven sick days per year by their employer - and 56% of working moms don't use those days for themselves. Instead, they stay home to take care of sick kids.
• Even though, 43% of working moms are never allowed to take those days to care for children.
• So, what's a working mom do when the kids are sick? 33% have pretended to be sick themselves in order to stay home; 22% have faked an illness; 34% have sent their child to school anyway; and more than 60% call on a friend or relative to take care of the kids
• 60% of working moms consider their workplace family friendly
• 68% of working moms have never heard of "sick child day care", a new type of day care operation popping up around the country where staff cares for sick children.
