myASDF Celebrates the Season With 2012 Holiday Gift Card Program

Joey Travolta and Autism Organization Team Up to Give Gift Cards to Children and Families Living With Autism

2012-12-16
SCHERERVILLE, IN, December 16, 2012 (Press-News.org) myASDF (www.myASDF.org), a national organization that provides financial assistance for families living with autism, is pleased to announce its 2012 Holiday Gift Card Program with five autism partner organizations and the support of actor and director Joey Travolta.

myASDF has partnered with Autism Pensacola, Georgia Families of Autism/Asperger's Care, Educate and Support (FACES), Haugland Learning Center, Parker Autism, and the Oakland University Center for Autism Research, Education and Support (OUCARES) to provide families across the country with $500 gift cards for the holidays.

This year myASDF has donated 56 gift cards to its autism partners to distribute to their children and families living with autism, giving many deserving families the ability to have a merrier Christmas that they may not have had otherwise. The $500 gift cards to Target and Walmart enable families to buy the supplies they need and the presents they want to celebrate this special time of year.

Writer, actor, and director Joey Travolta, who directs an annual film camp that is hosted by OUCARES and supported by myASDF, thanked the organization for the work it does during the holidays and throughout the year. "myASDF is a godsend to so many people, and I am so excited about giving out the gift cards to the struggling families that have been chosen," Travolta said. "The financial burden that goes along with raising a child with autism is monumental, and it's a breath of fresh air to know that someone cares as much as myASDF. The Holiday Gift Card Program is what Christmas is all about, and I look forward to getting involved in a big way in the coming years. Not only do you see the gifts of these young people, you give the gifts."

Many families have expressed their gratitude as well. "I want to thank you for the Walmart gift card for the holidays," said Greta Stultz, mother of Tristan Stultz for whom myASDF has provided financial support in other areas including participation in the organization's swim program. "Your foundation is wonderful to our family and without you we wouldn't have much of a Christmas for Tristan this year. Thanks again for all that you do. You are a wonderful organization and I can't say enough about myASDF!" Debra Pawlik, the mother of another family who received a gift card this year, said, "I can't tell you how much this means to me! Thank you, thank you, thank you!"

Morten Haugland, president and CEO of Haugland Learning Center, has said the gift card program "has made it possible for some struggling families to have a much better Christmas." He added, "We look at ASDF as our guardian angel and we wish that more people knew of all the joy this foundation has spread among families of children with autism. We cannot thank the foundation enough and wish them the best of luck in raising funds for future gifts to the autism community."

The $500 gift cards are part of myASDF's ongoing commitment and mission to support children with an autism spectrum disorder by providing education and financial assistance. myASDF looks forward to increasing both its funding and its autism partners next year to expand its Holiday Gift Card Program to help make the 2013 holiday season even more special for children and their families living with autism.
