With an increase of 14% on the previous year, Ofcom's findings of the seventh International Communications Market Report from 13 December have revealed that Britain is the number one online shopping nation, followed by Australia with an average spending of GBP842. The Ofcom study confirms that 58% of the British population own a smartphone, while 19% have a tablet device. Deloitte has forecasted GBP330 million of sales directly through smartphones this Christmas, with another GBP500 million coming from tablets. Furthermore, Adina Stoleru describes Harrods as a fantastic example of engaging their online audience through the Harrods Magazine for iPad as an extension of Harrods' real-world brand persona. The app digitises the print edition's features by adding video interviews, fashion-shoot footage or interactive sections to try on virtual make-up (Guardian.co.uk).
