CHARLESTON, SC, December 19, 2012 (Press-News.org) Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina helped present the Color of Justice Program during the Affiliate Showcase portion of the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Fall Meeting In Charleston, SC on Saturday October 20th 2012. The Affiliate Showcase portion of the conference had a purpose of showing what different affiliates or local bars were doing as far as community service projects. There were several service projects showcased from the South Carolina Bar including the Color of Justice Program. The Color of Justice Program is a daylong event that seeks to introduce middle and high school students to the profession of law with interactions with judges, practicing lawyers, law school professors and admissions personnel, and law students. Color of Justice allows students to learn the step by step process to becoming a lawyer from where they are as students in middle and high schools, and lets students ask questions and get advice to help them along the way.
The Affiliate Showcase sought to convince young lawyers from all across the country to implement service projects in their own local bars. Attorneys from far away states such as Hawaii, California, Texas, Oregon, Washington state, and many other states stopped by the table to listen and learn about the Color of Justice Program and took information about the program. Attorney Evan Guthrie helped explain how the program worked as well as how to plan an event by recruiting speakers, signing up interested students, securing a location, and many other facets of the program. There was a steady stream of lawyers that stopped by to get more information about the program. The goal was to convince attorneys in other states to start their own Color of Justice events in their affiliates and based on the interest in the program that may become a reality. Mr. Guthrie is a committee member of the Color of Justice for the Young Lawyers Division of the South Carolina Bar and has participated in events and organized and planned an event in Charleston, SC. Attorney Guthrie participates in many Young Lawyer Division events a year and looks forward to spreading the word and being a part of future events.
