CLEVELAND, December 20, 2012 (Press-News.org) Keeping Us Safe is proud to announce that Donna Barrett and Rebecca Spilak Salamon of Southwest General Health Center have successfully completed an intensive training program and are now certified as "Beyond Driving with Dignity" professionals.
The "Beyond Driving with Dignity" professional certification program has been designed to arm Barrett, Salamon and other professionals across the United States and Canada with tools necessary to help older drivers and their families work through the complicated issue of age-related diminishing driving skills.
Having received this certification, the Geriatric Services Department of Southwest General Health Center is now well-suited to provide older drivers and their families with a very specific program that will help make decisions on how to keep the older driver safe.

The "Beyond Driving with Dignity" program is designed to help older drivers with diminishing driving skills make a smooth transition from the driver's seat to the passenger seat without deterioration to their dignity, personal pride or independence.
"Our programs are designed to save lives while simultaneously helping to ease the burden of the family as they find themselves faced with this very challenging issue", said Matt Gurwell, a retired Ohio State Trooper and CEO of Keeping Us Safe.
Southwest General, a partner of University Hospitals, is a Level III trauma center located in the Cleveland suburb of Middleburg Heights, Ohio. For six of the past seven years, Southwest General has been ranked among the 100 Top Hospitals in the nation by Thomson Reuters.
