Mixtapes are Back - Dragontape Offers a Nicer Way to Enjoy YouTube Videos
2010-10-19
BUDAPEST, HUNGARY, October 19, 2010 (Press-News.org) Dragontape is a new online mixtape service that lets users remix YouTube videos into 3-hour, continuously playing mixtapes. The recently added embedding feature now lets users embed entire mixtapes into blog posts and Facebook updates.

Dragontape launched this summer, promising a nicer way to enjoy YouTube videos. Dragontape's mixtapes are essentially playlists of YouTube videos that users can compile using an innovative visual interface the developers say is as easy to use as a tape recorder. Mixtapes can be viewed in full screen, without the usual interruptions and distractions.

Collaborative features let users share tapes with friends, or set up a YouTube party where everyone can drop their favorite videos to the mix, like a jukebox.

"We like to think this is just one small step for Dragontape, but one giant leap for Facebook and blogs. We have plenty of other plans in the works, but for now our users can finally embed entire mixtapes in their posts, and let their readers or friends watch the tape straight on their wall or blog. It certainly beats the old way of embedding each clip in a mile long post, and we hope it's going to kick it off for Dragontape on Facebook and the blogosphere."

The new embed feature uses the oEmbed standard to ensure wide compatibility. The embedded version of the Dragontape player offers the same gapless playback and easy tape controls as the webapp, but with a simplified view of the timeline, that works better with the smaller screen size.

The update also brings some smaller changes, such as the addition of a volume control to the player, and the ability to directly search existing YouTube playlists and favorites from within the app.

U.S. DOT Regulation of Fluorescent Lamp Transportation: Part 3

2010-10-19
In addition to the exceptions listed in the previous two posts, DOT regulations are, in general, relatively lax. They allow transport of used lamps in the original manufacturer's packaging for a lamp, even though that packaging is almost certainly not designed to prevent the loss of mercury vapors. The DOT standard allows lamps (as long as each lamp contains less than five grams of mercury) to be transported in the "manufacturer's original packaging" as long as the package contains less than 30 grams of total mercury. Based on the mercury content assumptions described ...
