My Retirement Education Center Takes Social Security Optimization Classes on the Road; Announces Statewide 2013 Tour

Local Financial Planner Offers Social Security Class to Help All North Carolinians Understand and Make the Best Decisions on How and When to File for Benefits

2013-01-06
RALEIGH, NC, January 06, 2013 (Press-News.org) My Retirement Education Center, a Raleigh-based organization providing an unbiased resource for personalized retirement information in a pressure-free environment, is announcing a statewide tour to help North Carolina residents better understand Social Security. The tour will include hundreds of Social Security Optimization classes throughout 2013, each specifically aimed at helping individuals get the absolute most from their benefits. This includes providing a detailed personal report on how and when to file and considering special situations, such as the death of a spouse or divorce.

The class provides a basic overview of Social Security fundamentals, such as how it works as part of a complete retirement income plan, how to integrate a spouse's income and how to manage cash flow to accommodate times before starting to receive benefits. Additionally, the Social Security Optimization class provides each participant with a detailed analysis of their personal situation, including consideration of every available option. In the end, every participant gets a definitive answer on when to file to get the highest benefit and what forms need to be completed by what dates to do so.

"In Social Security, there are no do-overs," said Steve Gaito, founder and director of My Retirement Education Center. "You have one opportunity to decide how and when to elect your benefits, and making the wrong decision could mean the difference of hundreds of thousands of dollars in income for your retirement. Because people don't have all the facts, only 1 to 2 percent of Americans elect the maximum Social Security benefit, while more than 45 percent elect the minimum. That shouldn't be the case and I want to help by educating people on their options."

Gaito is a Certified Financial PlannerTM (CFP ) practitioner with nearly 20 years of experience helping individuals, companies and nonprofits prepare for their financial futures. He started My Retirement Education Center in early 2012 as a resource for Triangle-area residents of all ages and financial backgrounds to learn about the basics of retirement planning so they can feel confident in their decisions when navigating what can be a confusing and complicated process.

The statewide My Retirement Education Center tour will kick off in January 2013 with classes in Pittsboro/Siler City, Smithfield, Selma, Wilson, Clayton, Goldsboro, Chapel Hill and Elon, among others. Each one-hour Social Security Optimization class will cost $50 for a couple or an individual.
