According to reports from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), holiday related injuries, such as falls from ladders, have increased in recent years.
A survey of orthopedic surgeons indicates that falls from ladders can be some of the most devastating accidents that they treat, resulting in a variety of muscular, orthopedic, and neurological injuries. - Always use a stable A-Frame extension ladder, and have an assistant on the ground for stabilization.

- Maintain 3 points of contact with the ladder at all times, and do not extend your reach beyond a foot in any direction.
- Always position the ladder on firm, solid ground.
- Check all lights to ensure they are safe to use and operating properly before you attempt hanging them.
- Only use lights that are certified for outdoor use, and have been safety tested by a nationally recognized organization, such as UL.
