CHARLESTON, SC, January 09, 2013 (Press-News.org) Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina helped organize and moderate the Color of Justice Program held at the Charleston School of Law on Saturday October 27th 2012 in Charleston, SC. The Color of Justice is a program sponsored by the Young Lawyers Division of the South Carolina Bar and dedicated to introducing middle and high school students to the legal profession in a full day event with judges, lawyers, law school personnel, and law students. Color of Justice encourages diversity students to consider law as career, but is open to all students. The program includes panel discussions where participants can interact with those that have made it in the legal profession and others that can give them practical advice to help them get there. Some middle and high school students that take part in Color of Justice may already know that they want to become lawyers, but others may have only an interest and the program can give them more information to help them make a decision on what career path to take. The students that took part in the program were active by asking questions in the panel discussions and helping shape the direction of the discussion to topics that were of most importance to them.
The program concluded with a pizza lunch that was combined with a small group discussion that allowed for further interaction and questions with judge, lawyer, and law student panelists. The Color of Justice program was well attended by students from many different local area middle and high schools including Burke High School, Academic Magnet High School, Fort Dorchester High School, and Alston Middle School among others. Attorney Evan Guthrie helped organize the program by scheduling speakers and inviting students from Charleston area schools. Mr. Guthrie also participated in the program by being the moderator of the panelist discussion by leading the discussion and asking questions of the speakers. Attorney Guthrie was happy to participate in the program and bring such a potentially valuable experience to students in the area. Mr. Guthrie looks forward to making sure that Color of Justice is an annual program in the Charleston area and encouraging students to consider the legal profession.
