GRAND RAPIDS, MI, January 10, 2013 (Press-News.org) Patricia Harney, the legislative affairs manager for
Hospice of Michigan, has been selected for the Michigan Political Leadership Program.
The program, which is sponsored by Michigan State University, is a 10-month weekend program that recruits, trains and inspires tomorrow's public policy leaders. Harney will be one of 24 individuals from around the state - 12 of them women - who will engage in the public policy and leadership curriculum, which incorporates practical politics, public policy analysis, personal leadership development and effective governance.
Administered by MSU's Institute for Public Policy and Social Research, more than 500 fellows have graduated from the program since its inception 20 years ago.
"I am deeply honored to have been selected for the Michigan Political Leadership Program," Harney said. "As a recognized leader in hospice and palliative care, Hospice of Michigan has played an important role in the development and passage of the largest package of end-of-life bills in the state's history.
"I look forward to connecting with other fellows in the program to expand the discussion of the important work that we do, both in policy and care at the bedside."
In her role as legislative affairs manager for HOM, Harney represents HOM to senior public officials in Congress and the Michigan Legislature. She provides strategy and tactical advice on public policy to the organization.
Harney is a member of the National Council of Hospital and Palliative Professionals, Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development, Healthcare Association of Michigan Legal/Regulatory Committee, and Hospice & Palliative Care Association of Michigan Policy Committee. She also serves on the Michigan Board of Pharmacy and the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber Government Affairs Committee.
