DALLAS, TX, January 11, 2013 (Press-News.org) Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP is pleased to announce the addition of Scott D. Deatherage as a partner in the Firm's Dallas office. Mr. Deatherage focuses his practice on environmental, energy and greenhouse gas regulatory matters. In addition to providing permitting, compliance and litigation services, he counsels clients — specifically those in the oil and gas, pipeline, mining and manufacturing industries — on a wide array of environmental issues in connection with transactions, including mergers and acquisitions.
As a member of Gardere's Environmental Practice Group, Mr. Deatherage will continue representing clients before local, state and federal environmental agencies and in state and federal courts. Mr. Deatherage will formulate creative strategies to address complex environmental matters.
Mr. Deatherage also will serve on the Firm's Energy Industry Practice Group. He is well-versed in liabilities and regulatory challenges arising from energy projects. In his 25 years practicing in Texas, he has developed substantial expertise in environmental matters affecting the oil and gas industry in exploration and production (both onshore and offshore), refining, pipeline and terminals, and marketing. Electricity generation for traditional and renewable power projects will also be at the forefront of Mr. Deatherage's practice in the coming year as the industry continues to require new generation from traditional and renewable energy.
Gardere's Environmental Practice Group is regularly recognized by Chambers and Partners for its "impressive record in the climate change arena" and for "extensive experience advising on air, water and land pollution cases, hazardous substance disposal liability and remedial actions." Gardere's Environmental Practice also received national honors in the 2011-2012 "Best Law Firms" rankings published by U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers . Prominent members of the Firm's Environmental Practice Group include David M. Bates, Richard O. Faulk, Jeffrey M. Gaba, John S. Gray, Fran E. Phillips and John W. Slates.
In each of the past nine years, Mr. Deatherage has earned recognition in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business for his environmental work. His environmental practice also has been recognized by U.S. News and Best Lawyers for eight consecutive years. In 2010, Mr. Deatherage was named the Dallas Environmental Lawyer of the Year by U.S. News and Best Lawyers — an honor extended to Gardere's Fran E. Phillips in 2012.
"Scott Deatherage is skilled in his craft and we are pleased to announce his addition to the Firm," says Gardere Managing Partner Steve Good. "Issues concerning energy and the environment are continually evolving, and Scott's wealth of experience in these areas will enable us to share even more unique insights with our clients."
Mr. Deatherage earned his law degree from Harvard Law School and his undergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma.
