The Munich Book Show returns for the 51st time on November 17th.

2010-10-20
MUNICH, GERMANY, October 20, 2010 (Press-News.org) People looking for a good holiday read while staying in Munich hotels should find plenty of inspiration at a forthcoming event.

Running from November 17th to December 5th, the Munich Book Show is a major literary celebration that brings leading authors, publishers, cultural critics and bookworms to the Bavarian capital.

As usual, a host of big names from the world of literature have been signed up for the event, with celebrated Somali novelist Nuruddin Farah due to appear at the opening ceremony on November 17th.

Farah has won numerous international prizes for his books, having published a large number of short stories, novels and essays.

Now based in Cape Town, his works include the Blood in the Sun trilogy and the play A Dagger in a Vacuum.

The festival takes place at Munich's Gasteig cultural centre - home of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra - and admission is free from November 18th.

Visitors will be able to browse the many exhibition tables and see newly released books from European publishers between 08:00 and 23:00 local time every day for the duration of the festival.

Approximately 300 publishers from German-speaking countries will be present at the show, ensuring all literary genres are represented in the exhibition hall.

The programme of readings, which usually begin at 19:00 each day, includes the bestselling thriller writer Ken Follett, British novelist Sadie Jones and the actress Sissi Perlinger.

Visiting parents can also encourage their children's reading habits by taking them along to one of the festival's special events for young people, which are free to attend.

For more information on this event, visit the Munich Book Show website or contact the organisers on (+49) 089 54 81 81 81.
