The 40th Anniversary Of Roe v. Wade, And Annette Raynor's "Overturned!"

January 22 marks the 40th anniversary of the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, and the issue continues to inspire controversy and passionate debate between pro-choice and pro-life Americans.

2013-01-25
HERNDON, VA, January 25, 2013 (Press-News.org) January 22 marks the 40th anniversary of the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, and the issue continues to inspire controversy and passionate debate between pro-choice and pro-life Americans. Many fear the possibility of the decision being reversed in the future, while others hope such a day will come.

So how exactly has debate progressed in the 40 years since Roe v. Wade was overturned? And what are the current goals of both pro-choice and pro-life Americans?

Author Annette Raynor has answers. She explores a potential future scenario in her political thriller "Overturned!" The novel, set in 2021 after Roe v. Wade is overturned, explores what happens when an unidentified young woman is found dead after an alleged "termination" in an inner-city tenement. The woman turns out to be the daughter of an ultra-conservative US Senator, launching an exploration of conspiracies and proposed social reforms.

Raynor, a married mother of three, spent over a decade researching abortion rights. She spent thousands of hours researching police reports, press clippings, and interviews with women whose lives have been affected by the landmark Roe decision.

"This is such a hot-button issue. Nearly everyone I encountered while working on the book had a strong, almost visceral reaction to the topic of abortion. I was truly amazed at what I learned in researching Overturned!", says Raynor.

Ask Annette:

-- Why Roe v. Wade remains so controversial 40 years later
-- What she learned during her years of research
-- How she feels about male politicians being so heavily involved in abortion legislation
-- How religion and faith play into the complexities of reproductive rights
-- What pro-life activists have told her about their number-one goal

Annette Raynor is a New Jersey-based financial advisor for SAFE Management, LLC and partner of Wealth Engineering, LLC, an entrepreneurial firm. An avid reader, she enjoys books that focus on social concerns from multiple viewpoints, along with historical nonfiction. Raynor lives near the shore in Monmouth County, NJ, with her husband and three children.
