Canadian Tutor Wins Tutor of the Year Award for 2012

Jessica Laing Rises to the Top of the Class over Thousands of Tutor Doctor Professionals Worldwide

2013-02-03
TORONTO, CANADA, February 03, 2013 (Press-News.org) Jessica Laing of Tutor Doctor Uxbridge in Ontario recently won the 2012 Tutor of the Year award. Twenty-four year old Laing, a Nipissing University graduate and certified teacher, earned the award among 15,000+ other tutors throughout ten countries (Canada, USA, Mexico, Ireland, UK, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Panama, Trinidad & Tobago, Chile) through her extraordinary efforts not only as a tutor but as a mentor.

Since being hired in September 2011, Laing has been receiving testimonials from both parents and her students on a regular basis. Through this award, Laing has been recognized as one of the most supportive, creative and fun tutors in the Tutor Doctor network.

"I feel very honored to have won this award considering all the great tutors in the system and all the nominations," said Jessica Laing. "Working for Tutor Doctor has been an absolute pleasure, and I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to work with a company that has such a great philosophy on tutoring and education."

As a substitute teacher, Laing spends her days teaching and distributing Tutor Doctor flyers at local schools, and her evenings tutoring a consistent twelve students per week, if not more. Dedicating her own time and resources, Laing has been known to spend many hours planning her sessions and creating games, exercises and flashcards for her students, as well as sharing them with her fellow tutors. Additionally, as a direct result of Laing's passion for Tutor Doctor, she is solely responsible for more than fifteen tutors that are now on the roster.

"Jessica has come to my rescue many times, agreeing to take on another student even though her schedule is completely full," said Jennifer Brannon, owner of Tutor Doctor Uxbridge. "Her 'can-do' attitude is truly contagious and we are thrilled to have Jessica as a representative of Tutor Doctor and our core values."

In a particular instance, Jessica went above and beyond to help one of her students outside of her tutoring needs. This past summer, Jessica had a trip planned to travel to British Columbia at the same time as one of her students planned to visit her dad in Calgary. The student's mother was very apprehensive about the her two daughters traveling alone; to help out the family, Jessica volunteered to change her plane ticket to stop in Calgary and deliver the girls to their dad safe and sound. The family was so appreciative of Jessica's caring gesture, and Tutor Doctor was once again proud to have her as an integral part of the network, exuding the Tutor Doctor company value of making a difference.
