LANGKAWI, MALAYSIA, October 22, 2010 (Press-News.org) Sailing enthusiasts are set to descend on the Malaysian resort of Langkawi towards the end of next month to witness the climax of the 2010 Selangor International Regatta.
The country's oldest contest of its kind, which was first held in 1990, sees competitors set sail from Port Klang in Selangor on November 20th and make their way towards Langkawi, stopping off at Pangkor and Penang along the way.
On Thursday November 25th, participants will sail through the night to reach Langkawi early the following day, with the Friday set aside for yachtsmen to relax, go shopping and play golf.
However, people staying in Langkawi hotels will still be able to watch some sailing action on this day if they head down to Bass Harbour near the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club.
Postponed events and races for specific classes of yacht will be contested throughout the day.
The regatta comes to a head on Saturday November 27th, with local media and TV reporters typically flocking to enjoy the final few contests at the harbour.
A gala prize-giving dinner will then be held at the clubhouse, with HRH the Sultan of Selangor typically gracing the occasion.
More than 60 vessels took part in the competition in 2009, with the entrants choosing a variety of yachts ranging from racing models to classic cruisers dating back almost a century.
For more information on this event, visit the Selangor International Regatta website or contact the organisers on (+60) 3 3168 6964.
