PROVO, UT, February 20, 2013 (Press-News.org) Career Step, an online school offering career-focused education, has launched an updated version of its Computer Technician training program. The program has been updated to ensure graduates are prepared to pass the new CompTIA A+ certification exams, which were released in October 2012.

"Employers are looking for CompTIA A+ certified technicians, and preparing students to earn that credential key to helping them succeed in the workforce," said Career Step Vice President of Academics Jerolyn Carter. "With the release of the updated CompTIA A+ exams, we have updated our training program to ensure our students are gaining the knowledge and skills needed to earn their CompTIA A+ certification and be competitive in the workforce."

The updated Career Step Computer Technician program encompasses all of the technical requirements covered by the CompTIA A+ certification. Upon graduation, students will be prepared to sit for these exams, and when they finish the course they will receive two exam vouchers. To better prepare students for the exams, the updated course includes an expanded discussion of hardware, networking, and troubleshooting concepts in addition to new information on working with mobile devices, specific security issues, and virtualization. This new material has increased the total amount of curriculum content from 230 hours to 305 hours of material. Students enrolled in the previous version of the Career Step Computer Technician program can take the old version of the CompTIA A+ exams until August 2013.

With the expanded course hours, students can complete the Computer Technician course in as little as three months. The course's online format allows students to enroll whenever they are ready to start and study on a schedule and at a pace that fits their individual needs. Students also have access to experienced, certified instructors throughout the course as well as extensive graduate support as they are looking to turn their education into a job after graduation.

The U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that the Computer Technician field is expected to grow by 18%, or over 110,000 new jobs, between 2010 and 2020. The BLS also reports that professionals in this field earn average annual salaries of over $50,000.
