Marketing budgets hold steady in recovery

There's good news for the industry from the latest IPA/BDO Bellwether report - UK spending on marketing is on the up again, as the sector heads towards the end of one of its toughest-ever years.

CHESHIRE, ENGLAND, October 23, 2010

Total marketing spend rose by a modest but welcome 0.5% in Q3 of 2010, improving on the 4.6% decline in the previous quarter.

The positive news echoes the experience of roadshow marketing specialists EMS during 2010, which the roadshow exhibitions business predicts will see it deliver record turnover and achieve a 15% increase on last year, as major brands continue to invest in its results-driven event marketing roadshows.

EMS Managing Director Keith Austin echoed IPA president Roy Sutherland's observation that despite dips in spending in certain areas, event marketing budgets are now holding steady and even rising across the industry.

Keith said: "There's no doubt that it's been a tough year, but EMS' reputation for delivering highly targeted and measurable international roadshow promotions campaigns has ensured our continuing success in 2010 - with the business set to break the GBP5m turnover barrier."

"A growing number of major brands - including Sky, Barclays and Samsung - are recognising the value of event marketing roadshows, which helps them reach and communicate to large audiences face to face very cost-effectively."
