VICTORIA, BC, March 01, 2013 (Press-News.org) Urban Solar Corporation, a leading manufacturer of solar powered LED lighting solutions, is pleased to announce Concord Kannapolis Area Transit (Rider Transit) of Concord, North Carolina, has placed an order with Urban Solar to supply solar powered lighting systems for their bus stops. Rider selected Urban Solar's PV-Stop solar powered lighting systems for their high intensity LED lighting, integrated low-profile and vandal-resistant attributes.
After product evaluations Rider Transit selected Urban Solar's PV-Stop to deliver solar lighting for bus stops to provide increased passenger safety while integrating a sustainable environmentally friendly bus stop lighting solution. The contract award between Urban Solar and Rider Transit incorporates powerful LED technology and intelligent power management with environmentally friendly solar power to enhance the safety and rider experience for transit customers served by Concord Kannapolis Area Transit.
The incorporation of Urban Solar lighting at bus stops demonstrates the on-going efforts of Rider Transit's commitment to sustainability. Rider Transit operates their current bus fleet utilizing biodiesel, and is in the process of converting over 80% of its fleet to hybrid electric. In their Transit Center, Rider has implemented energy and water conservation efforts, the use of recycled and local content, and made extensive use of natural lighting to minimize their demand for electricity, with a goal of having the facility LEED certified Gold.
"Utilizing solar lighting at Rider bus stops furthers our commitment to our ridership with safe, renewable amenities to improve their transit experience" states Transit Manager L.J. Weslowski. "Coupled with our other sustainability projects, we continue to find products and partners that will allow us to continue to improve the service we provide to our customers while reducing our energy dependence and environmental impact."
"This contract award is a strong statement in support of Urban Solar's bus stop solar lighting systems," states Jeff Peters, Urban Solar's President.
Combining bright white LED technology with Urban Solar's Energy Control Module, the PV-Stop provides a comfortable waiting environment for bus riders awaiting their bus and ensures riders will be seen by bus drivers and other motorists.
"The result," states Peters, "is a safer, more welcoming bus stop that helps enhance the transit experience while also reducing Rider Transits' carbon footprint."
