ST. LOUIS, MO, March 14, 2013 (Press-News.org) The weather is beginning to change and with that comes the beginning of the summer road construction and repairs. The Missouri Department of Transportation will begin and continue work on the Blanchette Bridge and Interstate 270 between Manchester Road and Interstate 44. These two thoroughfares are high traffic roadways. St. Louis Car Accident attorney, Daniel P. Finney, Jr., warns that drivers need to exercise patience and attention.
"Most people fail to make the necessary time changes to their driving schedules. Adding few more minutes to your travel time can greatly reduce the possibility for accidents in these construction zones. People also need to discontinue cell phone use while in the construction areas. We have a lot of MODOT workers at risk in these areas so people should adhere to safe driving rules."
Finney also emphasized that many people can use alternate routes to avoid these construction areas. In his thirty plus years of experience, Finney says he has handled cases dealing with construction zone accidents and injuries that boil down to one common theme: "Inattentiveness," he says. "People treat construction zones like normal conditions but they aren't. Lanes are narrowed and restricted. Workers are present. People must exercise care or serious injuries can result."
Finney said it is crucial that travelers make construction zones are safety priority. Until that happens, he says, workers and other drivers will be at risk.
