ATLANTA, GA, March 14, 2013 (Press-News.org) Convinced they are spot on when it comes to period preparedness, two Atlanta women have launched MYGIRLYSIDE.COM, a web-based subscription service that discreetly delivers feminine hygiene products direct to members along with a feel-good charity bonus and a subtle dose of menstrual humor.
In three simple steps, My Girly Side offers subscribers a choice of name-brand tampons to fit their cycle, a delivery schedule of every two, three or four months and participation in a charitable donation that benefits women's causes. Pricing for the service starts at $18.95 for delivery of a two-month tampon supply and shipping is free.
"Periods are like clockwork yet women often find themselves unprepared when they start." said Becky Halford, co-founder of the new subscription service. "For less than $10 per month, My Girly Side members enjoy the convenience of automatic tampon replenishment direct to their doorstep."
Halford and business partner Mandy Brooks conducted their own market research during the early stages of the company's development and found that while the female menstrual cycle is highly predictable, women of all ages resist adequate preparation.
"Despite the fact that the typical American female will use nearly 10,000 tampons in her lifetime, more than half of the women we surveyed said they are commonly caught without necessary provisions when they need it most," said Halford.
The research showed that running out of supplies mid-cycle, borrowing from a co-worker and creative improvisation were regular occurrences. My Girly Side aims to solve this problem while at the same time introducing some fun into the shopping process.
As an added bonus, My Girly Side donates a percentage of every order to one of two non-profits which support women's causes — Girls Inc. and Women's Health Foundation. Members direct the company's charitable contributions by selecting one of these organizations when placing their initial order.
"As women, we expect more from the brands that touch our lives," explained Halford. "Our business model incorporates charitable giving and our members play a significant role in directing our donations. The organizations we're targeting are in sync with our mission to support women's issues."
The partners plan to leverage My Girly Side's website and social networking channels to provide a genuine platform for women to share their stories while at the same time injecting an authentic measure of humor into the feminine hygiene space.
Beyond tampons, the next phase of My Girly Side's service will include an expanded assortment of feminine care products and other "girly goodies." Members will be able to add the new products to their regularly scheduled deliveries beginning later this year.
"There are plenty of feminine products out there, but many women simply don't feel comfortable buying them right off the shelf at their local Target," said Halford. "With My Girly Side, no one needs to know what's in your bathroom cabinet or your nightstand drawer."
