WASHINGTON, DC, March 15, 2013 (Press-News.org) The Hadley Nursing Center of the Specialty Hospital of Washington recently received the Excellence Award for Pressure ulcer reduction from the Delmarva Foundation. The award recognizes individual nursing homes performance and positive outcomes in pressure ulcer reduction. The award demonstrates a home's commitment to excellence and serves as a continuing reminder of quality improvement.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have included wound care as a quality measure for nursing homes. In the nursing center environment, the percent of high-risk residents who have pressure sores has been identified as one of its five long-stay quality measures. Utilization of this guideline by the Hadley Nursing Center's clinical staff along with Dr. Robert Dennis and Dr. Edgar Potter, Medical Director, the team was able to identify that pressure ulcer prevalence can be influenced by nursing home care practices such as frequent scheduling of assessments for suspicious skin areas, observations on the environmental assessments of residents, and care practices related to how the nursing home manages clinical, psychosocial and nutritional complications. The Hadley Nursing Center reported a significant drop in the percentage of pressure ulcer reports and incidence of patients being transferred to a high level of care for the treatment of pressure ulcers.
Hadley Nursing Center at The Specialty Hospital of Washington is licensed as a nursing facility and restorative/rehabilitative center that provides care 24 hours a day to help residents achieve their optimum level of wellness and independence. The Hadley Nursing Center offers quality healthcare and compassionate service at an affordable cost.
