HAWTHORNE, NJ, March 26, 2013 (Press-News.org) Thousands of thyroid patients around the globe continue to protest current hypothyroidism treatment guidelines. ThyroidChange, a grass roots patient effort to improve the treatment of thyroid disease, reports that the current guidelines leave too many patients symptomatic and demand changes in those standards.
"Thyroid patients are suffering and endocrinologists fail to understand that current treatment guidelines are insufficient," state Michelle Bickford and Denise Rodriguez, ThyroidChange coordinators. "Endocrinologists recommend outmoded methods of diagnosis and treatment which too often leave patients suffering from debilitating symptoms such as chronic pain, relentless fatigue, heart disease, depression and anxiety. There is no reason for thyroid patients to suffer. We will not stop until we achieve ThyroidChange."
ThyroidChange seeks to demonstrate the need for further research and change in current treatment options and diagnostic methods. The organization has submitted their 9000 signature patient petition to Scottish Parliament, which is currently considering a petition lodged by its citizens regarding a similar accusation of hypothyroid treatment insufficiency. Parliament is awaiting response from the World Health Organization. (http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/GettingInvolved/Petitions/PE01463).
ThyroidChange aims to provide thyroid patients with access to effective thyroid disease diagnosis, innovative assessment and individualized treatment.
