Mahon Enterprises Ltd. Report on N.A.S.A's Alert

NASA chief Charles Bolden has announced late last week that a large asteroid was found to be on a collision course with earth and has potential to cause massive devastation

2013-03-27
DUBLIN, ENGLAND, March 27, 2013 (Press-News.org) MD of Mahon Enterprises Ltd. Tina Fletcher comments "this news has shocked me after the devastating effect the asteroid estimated about 17 metres in diameter exploded on 15 February over Chelyabinsk, Russia, generating shock waves that shattered windows and damaged buildings and injured over 1,500 people.

MD Tina Fletcher reports that it was the largest object to hit Earth's atmosphere since the 1908 Tunguska event when an asteroid or comet exploded over Siberia, levelling 80 million trees over more than 2,150km squared.

The asteroid is due to be passing close to earth within the next 3 weeks. Tina comments "The odds of a near-Earth object strike causing massive casualties and destruction of infrastructure are very small, but the potential consequences of such an event are so large it makes sense to takes the risk seriously.

Mahon Enterprises reports that around 66 million years ago, an object 10km in diameter is believed to have smashed into what is now the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, leading to the demise of the dinosaurs, as well as most plant and animal life on Earth.

According to N.A.S.A an estimated 13,000 to 20,000 midsized to small asteroids came close to Earth in 2012 and only 10-percent of these which could devastate a continent were found.

The cost of an asteroid-locating space telescope stands at around $750 million compared with the Obama administration's $2 billion plan to send astronauts to a near-Earth asteroid by 2025. Tina believes that it is important for the necessary people to get together and devise how a plan will be executed correctly to ensure any future operations are successful.

Tina believes that the international community should get together to give more funding to agencies like N.A.S.A who do a significant amount of work in the detection of cataclysmic space objects like asteroids and meteors.

Technology today is not far away from being able to intercept an asteroid that is on collision course with earth. Tina believes that the funds which are spent around the world on warfare would be put to better use on the technologies that would help save the planet.
