RALEIGH, NC, March 29, 2013 (Press-News.org) O2 Fitness, the largest locally owned fitness company in North Carolina, will host its third "Shape Up Downtown" event in Downtown Raleigh this April. The free event series will give members of the community the chance to enjoy the warmer weather and mix up their workout routines this spring by participating in a variety of popular group fitness classes. All classes are free and open to the public and will take place on the turf in City Plaza.

This spring, the general public and members of O2 Fitness will be able to take their workouts outdoors to enjoy high-energy group fitness classes taught by expert instructors. The class schedule includes Yoga, Body Combat, Bootcamp, Zumba, Inner Strength and more. Shape Up Downtown will kick off on Monday, April 1 with an energetic Body Combat class at 5:45 p.m. Body Combat is one of the Les Mills classes taught at O2 Fitness and is inspired by martial arts, drawing from a wide array of disciplines such as karate, boxing, taekwondo, tai chi and muay thai. Participants will kick, punch and burn their way through calories during this empowering workout.

All Shape Up Downtown classes will be held on the turf at City Plaza, located in the 400 block of Fayetteville Street in the heart of downtown Raleigh, at either noon or 5:45 p.m. City Plaza boasts stunning views of the Capitol building, Memorial Auditorium and Fayetteville Street, making the Shape Up Downtown series one of Raleigh's must-do spring activities.

"O2 Fitness is excited to offer another series of free outdoor fitness classes in Downtown Raleigh as part of our continued commitment to the communities in which we operate," said Shanna Kane, director of marketing for O2 Fitness. "The spring season is a perfect time of the year to exercise outside and to reenergize your workout routine. Plus, it's free!"

O2 Fitness, with its involvement in nonprofit partnerships and special events such as Shape Up Downtown, has become an integral part of the Triangle community. O2 Fitness has already donated more than $30,000 in memberships so far this year, is a sponsor of the Miracle League of the Triangle and has plans to continue donating time, money and resources to many more great causes and organizations in the future.

While Shape Up Downtown classes are free, participants should register online in advance to reserve their spot. With 10 locations in Raleigh, Cary, Chapel Hill, Fuquay-Varina and Wilmington, O2 Fitness at Seaboard Station is located just down the street from City Plaza at 802 Semart Drive.
