HARPERS FERRY, WV, March 30, 2013 (Press-News.org) The second annual Bolivar-Harpers Ferry Community Art Walk, scheduled for April 27 to 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., will feature photos of the Appalachian Trail (A.T.) at the Appalachian Trail Conservancy's (ATC) Visitor Center on 799 Washington Street, Harpers Ferry, WV. The ATC will feature photos from photographer Ron Roman, including his iconic image, "Appalachian Trail Mist", featured on the cover of The Appalachian Trail: Celebrating America's Hiking Trail.
Roman is a 1987 A.T. thru-hiker who took his inspiration on the Trail to capture the depth and mystery of the pristine landscape along the A.T. His photos focus on the light, vapor, color, and movement of the A.T. His work has been published in numerous publications such as National Geographic Adventure, Outside, Backpacker, Delta Sky, and the Discovery Channel Guidebook Series.
In 2010, Roman captured the iconic photo, "Appalachian Trail Mist", on the A.T.'s Tennessee and North Carolina border, which was later featured on the cover of the 2012 book, The Appalachian Trail: Celebrating America's Hiking Trail. Visitors will have opportunity to meet this artist, view his work, and purchase this renowned photo, with ten percent of the gross sales donated back to the ATC.
"The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is excited to host Ron Roman during the second Annual Bolivar-Harpers Ferry Community Art Walk," stated Javier Folgar, Director of Marketing and Communications of the ATC. "His photos capture the Appalachian Trail in its purest form, evoking the public's imagination."
This photo gallery is part of the Bolivar-Harpers Ferry Community Art Walk. This event will feature artwork in the local businesses from Bolivar to the lower town in Harpers Ferry. Visitors will have the opportunity to walk along the tree-lined streets, take in historic views, and experience the local art and history of these two communities. This is a self-guided tour.
Other local businesses participating at this event include the Bolivar-Harpers Ferry Public Library, Teahorse B&B/Hostel, The Gilded Flea, Hill Top House, The Woman's Club, Harpers Ferry Wine & Gourmet, The Vintage Lady, The Village Shop, The Towns Inn, Steam at Harpers Ferry, Art Shack Baby, Tenfold Fair Trade, Mary Adams, Scoops, Westwind Potters, True Treats, and the Harpers Ferry National Park Bookshop.
Bolivar and Harpers Ferry are both a part of the A.T. Community program. This program is designed to recognize communities that promote and protect the Appalachian Trail. Towns, counties, and communities along the A.T.'s corridor are considered assets by hikers and many of these towns act as good friends and neighbors to the Trail. The program serves to assist communities with sustainable economic development through tourism and outdoor recreation, while preserving and protecting the A.T.
