Trinidad and Tobago's Fashion House Unveils Its Resort Collection At Singapore's Leading Fashion Tradeshow

Kaj Designs Leads As The First Caribbean Brand At BLUEPRINT
2013-04-03
NEW YORK, NY, April 03, 2013 (Press-News.org) Kaj Designs, one of Trinidad and Tobago's premier fashion houses, will lead the Caribbean as it unveils its latest resort collection, Tribu Sauvage, at the international fashion tradeshow, BLUEPRINT, in Singapore. From May 16 to 19, 2013, Kaj will join Asia's finest as the first Caribbean brand to exhibit and show at the core of Singapore's fashion week, Asia Fashion Exchange (AFX). www.kajdesigns.net

Kaj's newest collection marries luxury with the appeal of simple designs that jet set from a relaxing resort setting to fast-paced city life. For the discerning woman, Tribu Sauvage juxtaposes bold tribal infusions against a backdrop of wild animal and camouflage prints. The collection goes from everyday to evening in jersey knits and indulgent silk blends that gently hug the contour.

Self-taught designer, Kevin Ayoung-Julien, launched the burgeoning Caribbean brand in 2005 as a boutique operation producing custom-made one-of-a-kind pieces. Kaj debuted its first collection, Chachalaca, at Caribbean Fashionweek (CFW) in Jamaica. Since its inception, the Kaj brand has captured the attention of Caribbean and international fashionistas, critics, industry professionals and media. Kaj's couture swimwear completed the wardrobe of Grenada's 2007 Miss World pageant representative, Vivian Burkhardt. In June 2011, the fashion house launched in the French Caribbean with the placement of the Kaj Resort line at Guadeloupe's exclusive boutique, KOD.

In February 2012, Kaj received one of its highest honours as it was selected to represent the Caribbean in an initiative of the Caribbean Export Development Agency (CEDA) entitled Caribbean Collections. This initiative sought to create opportunities for access to European markets via participation in the inaugural International Fashion Showcase at London Fashion Week (LFW) Autumn/Winter (A/W) 2012. In the label's LFW debut, the Kaj Resort 10/11 collection was favoured as it featured at an exhibition held at The Charing Cross Hotel while select pieces featured at a private showing at the Corinthia Hotel.

With a sound business strategy and dynamic marketing tactics, Kaj is focused on establishing a stable presence in Asian markets. "I am excited yet I feel a sense of responsibility to display the Caribbean to these vast Asian markets. This is a stepping stone for the Caribbean to be at the fore of international fashion," shared Ayoung-Julien.

To the sophisticated woman who confidently asserts her sense of style, Kaj's newest creations deliver understated sensuality. Explore a haven of style with Kaj Resort 13/14. Putting a human face on a product: When brand humanization goes wrong

2013-04-02
CORVALLIS, Ore. – When companies put a human face on their brand, the public usually responds positively. This advertising approach has brought us alarm clocks with sleepy faces and color-coated chocolate candies with legs and arms. But a new study, published online ahead of print in the Journal of Marketing, finds there is a greater backlash by the public when a product branded with human characteristics fails. Lead author Marina Puzakova, an assistant professor of marketing at Oregon State University, said even though consumers can tell a camera designed with human ...

Diversification in ancient tadpole shrimps challenges the term 'living fossil'

2013-04-02
The term 'living fossil' has a controversial history. For decades, scientists have argued about its usefulness as it appears to suggest that some organisms have stopped evolving. New research has now investigated the origin of tadpole shrimps, a group commonly regarded as 'living fossils' which includes the familiar Triops. The research reveals that living species of tadpole shrimp are much younger than the fossils they so much resemble, calling into question the term 'living fossil'. Darwin informally introduced the term 'living fossil' in On the Origin of Species when ...

The trial involved 86 patients, 46 of whom had the procedure and 40 who did not. The primary outcome was the difference in the number of patients ...

Organ donation shortfall at large general hospitals in Ontario

2013-04-02
Organ donation in Ontario is significantly less common at large general hospitals than at hospitals with clinical programs for transplant recipients, which points to missed opportunities to optimize organ donation, according to a study published in CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal). To understand whether organ donation rates differed between hospitals that treat transplant recipients and those that do not, researchers looked at all patients (adults and children) who died from catastrophic brain injury in Ontario between 1994 and 2011. After excluding small hospitals ...
