WESLEY CHAPEL, FL, April 10, 2013 (Press-News.org) Ten Wesley Chapel Rotary members will partner with Pure Water for the World (PWW) the week of April 14-20, 2013 to install clean water filters in Honduras. Through the use of biosand filters and a broad education program, PWW has effectively reduced the frequency of illness due to contaminated water.
The Rotary Club of Wesley Chapel Rotary will be continuing work on the Trojes project, a three-and-a-half-year venture that started in 2010. The full Trojes project consists of installing 1,500 filters and building 500 latrines in 34 mountain communities throughout Honduras. Approximately 8,000 people from across the world are part of this project, and it will cost a total of $425,000.
"I have always wanted to do something like this," said member of rotary and owner of FocalPoint Business Performance of Tampa Bay, Dulcee Loehn. "I am so grateful that the Rotary Club of Wesley Chapel is giving me this opportunity to give back. I am passionate about community service, so this is a natural fit for me."
This will be the second year the Rotary Club of Wesley Chapel has traveled to Honduras to provide sustainable pure water solutions and appropriate management for human waste. Arriving on April 14, they will fly into Honduras' capital, Tegucigalpa, and then take a seven-hour trek to Donley for the night. On April 15, the group will travel to the Trojes mountain region to start their work.
While the Rotarians are in the Trojes Mountain region, they will also have the opportunity to teach children about clean hygiene provide them with snacks and play card and board games. Group members are looking forward to the opportunity to simply hold a child's hand, smile with them and give them love and care.
"It is so exciting to play a part in making other's lives better," says Loehn. "I am looking forward to meeting the very deserving families that live in the region." Loehn has been giving back to her community in various capacities for years. She says this is one of the most exciting opportunities she feels she will experience.
The club has sponsored each Rotarian's costs for this trip totaling $17,000. Monetary donations are always appreciated as well as items for the children. Bubbles, string or yarn for hand games, hair ribbons, barrettes, flash cards, stickers, granola bars and small candies are all needed. If you are interested in donating, please contact Eric Johnson by phone at 727-772-3265 or by email at ericjohnson@wesleychapeltoyota.com.
