Canadian Entrepreneur Hopes to Break World Record in Support of the Free The Children Foundation

Expert climber Paul DeAngelis is recruiting CrossFit Enthusiasts Worldwide to become Ambassadors for Change for World Record Charity Climb

OAKVILLE, ON, CANADA, April 10, 2013

This August CrossFit coach Paul DeAngelis, owner and lead guide of Mountain Climbing Adventures and co-owner of fitness studio Total Balance, will embark on his 43rd climb up Mt. Kilimanjaro, only this time he will be bringing along over 100 of the fittest people in the world in hopes of breaking the World Record for the most people to tackle the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Although setting a new world record is at the fore front of this endeavor, Paul also hopes to unite members of the CrossFit community from across the globe while raising awareness and funding for the Free The Children Foundation.

Paul's personal relationship with Free The Children began over a year ago when he was approached by founders Marc and Craig Kielburger to lead FTC ambassador Spencer West, a man with no legs, to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The climb was an inspiration to all and an incredible success as over $750,000 was raised to bring clean water to communities in Kenya. Wests' message of "Redefining Possible", the climb, and his budding friendship with Paul were all documented in a film featured at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival.

Paul and MCA have recruited CrossFit Affiliates around the world to become ambassadors for change and encourage their local communities to join the climb. Why team up with the CrossFit community? Their program is devoted to training people for any physical contingency, where all sports and physical tasks are looked at collectively and in sum their specialty is not specializing at all. This mentality meshes perfectly with that of Mountain Climbing Adventures: to be open to facing the unknown and unknowable.

This will be the first of many climbs in support of the Free The Children Foundation's quest to combat poverty. With a goal of recruiting 500 ambassadors world-wide and by shinning a world-wide light on this situation, we will create momentum that will change the world as we see it and hope to take even more steps towards making poverty a thing of the past.
