VCU School of Allied Health Professions offers guaranteed admissions to Richard Bland College students

2013-04-12
RICHMOND, VA, April 12, 2013 (Press-News.org) Richard Bland College announced today that Richard Bland College students with a cumulative 3.0 GPA and the given prerequisite courses are guaranteed admission into the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Allied Health Professions, Clinical Laboratory Sciences Department. This "2+2" agreement allows students to complete a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Sciences from VCU.

"Clinical lab science is a growing field. With the current shortage, more than 90% of graduates from the CLS program become employed within six months or go on to pursue graduate degrees in the health sciences.
This agreement creates a direct transfer of courses and a seamless pathway to a baccalaureate degree in a STEM-H discipline in a growing field with numerous jobs opportunities," said Richard Bland College President Debbie L. Sydow, Ph.D.

"The agreement with Richard Bland College is an important win for Virginia students and, ultimately, Virginia's economy," said VCU President Michael Rao. "The students who complete the required course work at Richard Bland College will be able to graduate from a top research university and go on to fill positions as scientists in a demanding field that is suffering from a shortage of qualified individuals."

Richard Bland College provides a distinctive learning experience for students preparing for transfer to selective colleges and universities after completing university-equivalent coursework and associate degrees in arts and science. The College enrolls more than 1,500 students—residential and commuter—on a picturesque campus located just outside historic Petersburg, Virginia and a short drive from Washington, D.C., Virginia Beach, and Williamsburg, Virginia.
