WHITE PIGEON, MI, April 15, 2013 (Press-News.org) Self-published author S.P. Kaye has decided to leverage the popular crowdfunding website Kickstarter.com to raise awareness and collect pledges to promote her first book.
"I released the book in January of this year, a sci-fi/fantasy novel titled Beyond This Life. It's the first book in the Through the Eyes of A Stranger series. It's been an amazing journey so far, but marketing electronic copies on the internet lacks that magical feeling I've always associated with books. So I thought it was time to take it on the road," says Kaye. How does she intend to promote her book? By arranging a book tour and donated copies to local libraries. "I want to be able to share my love of writing, but I only have a few copies of the paperback. The world of self-publishing is largely print-on-demand, and it's very expensive unless done in bulk." That's where the Kickstarter campaign comes in.
Kaye hopes to raise enough money by 2 pm on Thursday, May 9th to purchase a large enough print run of her book to take it on tour, starting in southwest Michigan. The tour would likely begin in White Pigeon, the current area of residence for Kaye and her husband, two children, and four dogs. From there she would like to continually expand the tour to include portions of northern Indiana and beyond. But Kickstarter will only collect and disperse the funds if she meets or exceeds her goal of $2,500, which includes credit card processing and administration fees.
The book series is intended for young teens to adults, and follows the journey of ten-year-old Gabriel Wallace as he is whisked off to different worlds to help fulfill a five hundred-year-old prophecy. While he travels through a strange land of magic and mystery, he learns that there is indeed more to life than what he once knew.
The Through the Eyes of A Stranger - The Book Tour campaign can be found directly at http://kck.st/ZBdgyl or via links on http://www.facebook.com/teasbooks and http://teasbook.wordpress.com. Pledging to support the campaign on kickstarter.com will allow backers to select reward levels that range from signed copies of the book to t-shirts and posters - provided the campaign successfully reaches its goal in time.
S.P. Kaye is a self-published author who released her first book in January 2013, and expects to release her second in the series in the Fall of 2013.
