Driving a vehicle can, in itself, be a dangerous activity. Inclement weather, obstacles in the road and other distracted drivers are all disconcerting to drivers. One factor many do not expect to cause an accident, however, is the car itself. Being aware of current recalls and fixing faulty parts prove important to a driver's safety.Ford's latest recall
According to multiple news sources, Ford decided to voluntarily recall 5,675 of its 2013 C-Max hybrids, Escape SUVs and Ford Focus sedans. This recall is due to faulty child safety door locks. The vehicles affected by this recall were manufactured at the Louisville and Michigan-Wayne assembly plants between November 16th and 21st, 2012.
The issue with the recalled vehicles
The issue, more specifically, is that the left rear door child lock may have been installed improperly. The driver of the vehicle may try to engage the safety locks, but the back left rear lock may not engage fully. In this scenario, a child may not be protected in the event of an accident, or could get out of a moving vehicle and become injured. No known accidents have resulted because of the safety lock malfunction, however.
What Ford is doing to correct the problem
Ford became aware of the issue on November 20th and halted sales of the vehicles so they could investigate the problem. Ford decided to send notification letters to vehicle owners by the end of March 2013. The notification letter instructs vehicle owners to bring their cars to a Ford dealer for a free inspection and replacement, if necessary. Any concerns with the vehicles before the letters are delivered can be answered by calling the company.
Faulty car parts
When a car accident occurs, the first step is determining what caused the accident. Sometimes the cause is a negligent driver. When a car accident occurs and the answer is less obvious, it is possible that part of the vehicle may have failed. Sometimes individuals involved in accidents remember hitting the brakes but do not remember the car slowing down. Many different types of faulty equipment can lead to an accident, including issues with air bags, defective seat belts, faulty brakes, bad tires and a leaky fuel system.
When cars are not designed properly and accidents result, the car companies may be held at fault for the accident. Injured parties may be able to collect damages for their medical expenses and missed time at work as well as compensation for pain and suffering. When negligence is suspected, an injured party should not hesitate to contact a personal injury lawyer. A personal injury attorney can assist in holding the manufacturer accountable for any defective products and the resulting injury.
