SAN DIEGO, CA, April 20, 2013 (Press-News.org) San Diego Self Storage (SDSS) is partnering with Recycle San Diego (RSD) to host an e-waste recycling campaign in celebration of Earth Day (observed on April 22, 2013). The free recycling event is open to the public and runs April 21st through April 27th at San Marcos Mini Storage and North County Self Storage facilities, both located in North County. San Marcos Mini Storage is located at 175 S. Bent Ave. in San Marcos, (760) 571-9342. North County Self Storage is located at 3661 Sunset Drive in Escondido, (760) 300-3921. Both facilities are open seven days a week from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and will be accepting: computers, monitors, televisions, small printers, laptops, cell phones, copiers, fax machines, and more (a full list is available at http://recyclesandiego.org/services/electronics-recycling). Electronic devices contain hazardous and toxic substances that pose serious risks to the environment and consumer health and it is illegal to dispose of e-waste in the refuse.
According to Managing Member J. Terry Aston, "We're very impressed with the recycling services offered by RSD. They take great care to maintain regulatory compliance with local, state and federal authorities by keeping their permits up to date and providing each client with a Certificate of Recycling, which verifies that the materials they receive are handled in strict compliance with state and Federal regulations. They do not dispose of electronics in landfills, they meet all necessary insurance requirements and the Certificate releases their clients from all liability. In this day and age when consumers and businesses rely heavily on electronic equipment, it's important to note that both state and federal hazardous-waste regulations make citizens responsible for handling the proper disposal of their used, end-of-life electronics, or they could be held liable. In California as of February 2006 it is illegal to dump almost all electronic devices. SDSS is contributing to this effort by providing convenient drop-off locations in North County to facilitate e-waste recycling."
Founded in 1972, San Diego Self Storage is one of the largest self-storage providers in San Diego County with a network of 18 neighborhood self-storage facilities and additional facilities in Los Angeles and Orange County. They recycle over 100 items and provide drop-off locations at their San Diego headquarters and various community sites as well as the option to schedule a pickup from a business office. California currently has the most comprehensive landfill ban in the nation, in order to curb both the illegal disposal and export of the largest category of toxic electronics.
