LateRooms.com - Paris Showcase of False Friends 'Challenges Preconceptions'

Modern media coverage is explored at False Friends in Paris.

2010-10-29
PARIS, FRANCE, October 29, 2010 (Press-News.org) People may find that their preconceptions about media coverage are challenged by the False Friends exhibition at Paris's Jeu de Paume venue.

The display is available to view until February 6th 2011 and features work by filmmakers from all over the world for guests at Paris hotels to enjoy.

It is essentially a collection of videos exploring certain events in history that have not received much coverage and aims to challenge what people originally believed about the situation in question.

The way it does this is by using a very fragmented style that highlights dissonance and offers an alternative view of reality.

"Using tension, humour and testimony, these micro-narratives work to shed light on events outside the history books and mainstream media," explained the venue.

However, the organisers are quick to stress that the videos are not trying to help people understand events, but merely to investigate the way modern media covers stories.l

Among the pieces that visitors will be able to see at the exhibition are All the Children but One by Noelle Pujol and Andreas Bolm, Outwardly from the Earth's Centre by Rosa Barba and Cristina Lucas's La Liberte Raisonnee.

Opening hours at Jeu de Paume are from 12:00 to 21:00 local time on Tuesdays, 12:00 to 19:00 from Wednesday to Friday and 10:00 to 19:00 at the weekend. The arts space is closed on Mondays.

Tickets cost EUR7 (GBP6.25), with attendees also able to view the institution's Andre Kertesz collection with this pass.

For more information on this event visit the Jeu de Paume website or contact the venue on +33 01 47 03 12 50.
