RALEIGH, NC, April 25, 2013 (Press-News.org) Robert Weiss, artistic director and CEO of Carolina Ballet (http://www.carolinaballet.com), has announced the final performance of Timour Bourtasenkov, a principal dancer and founding member of Carolina Ballet. Audiences can see this performance on Friday, April 26 at 8 p.m. at the Durham Performing Arts Center, where he will dance in the production of Fancy Free/Carolina Jamboree.
Originally from Moldavia, Bourtasenkov began his professional education with the Moldavian Opera House and Bolshoi Ballet. Prior to dancing with the Carolina Ballet, he danced with the Pennsylvania Ballet, New Jersey Ballet and the New York-based Daring Project. In 1998, he helped found the Carolina Ballet and has been a principal dancer since that time, dancing in many roles created specifically for him by Robert Weiss. A gifted choreographer, Bourtasenkov has choreographed works for Carolina Ballet, Infinity Ballet, New Jersey Ballet and, most recently, the New York Choreographic Institute.
Bourtasenkov has received local and international recognition, receiving the Bronze Medal in the VII Massako Ohyo World Ballet Competition of Osaka, Japan and the V International Competition of Paris, France, as well as a jury prize at the 2nd Luxembourg International Ballet Competition. In 1996, Bourtasenkov became the artistic advisor of Infinity Ballet and in 2005 he was named the artistic director of Carolina Performing Arts Center in Pinehurst, N.C.
