MARINA DEL RAY, CA, April 26, 2013 (Press-News.org) Boral Roofing, the nation's largest provider of premium sustainable clay and concrete roofing tile systems, announced it will feature a concrete tile roof solution on the Green Builder Media VISION House currently under construction in Tucson, Arizona. This is a joint collaboration between iconic green builders John Wesley Miller and Ron Jones along with sustainable building publisher Green Builder Media. The home is designed using Net-Zero energy and is located inside the nationally acclaimed Armory Park del Sol community.
Optimized for performance, the home includes the most efficient features, materials and technologies available on the market, while promoting style and affordability.
"The VISION House is a great example of the comfort and sustainability that can be achieved in the home with advanced materials and technologies," said John Renowden, Vice President of Technology for Boral Roofing. "Boral Roofing manufactures high-performance sustainable products, and this model home is a perfect place for us to showcase our wood shake emulation Madera 900 premium concrete roof tile."
The VISION House in Tucson will be the first Net-Zero energy house utilizing the City/County Net-Zero Energy Building Standard. With an expected HERS rating of negative 17, the VISION House in Tucson is designed to produce all of its own energy and will sell excess energy produced back to the local utility. The home will showcase the benefits of Net-Zero energy including the total cost of ownership (including mortgage and utilities), which is less than that of a similarly priced home meeting minimum building code requirements. Net-Zero homes in Tucson use less energy at rates much lower than what are provided by Tucson Electric Power, ensuring a secure energy future for the homeowner and the added benefit of reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
Boral Roofing's concrete tile roof system featured on the VISION House augments and supports energy efficiency throughout the home. The concrete roof system helps to maintain the home's internal temperature, which results in a reduced need to heat and cool the home as the temperatures flux outside. A lasting, lifetime product requiring little maintenance, the tile is manufactured in an eco-conscious facility in Gilroy, Calif. using low waste and low energy practices.
The VISION House is being constructed in the esteemed, historic neighborhood of Armory Park del Sol, a 90-home single-family community embracing sustainable development, proper orientation, solar power generation, walkable paths and parks, and close proximity to schools, entertainment, dining and downtown Tucson amenities.
Armory Park del Sol is acclaimed for its energy-efficient, attractive homes. Inspired by the historic Armory Park, all homes within the community showcase eye-catching arches and large porches, which replicate the aesthetic and feel of the nearby Southwestern homes. On average, Armory Park del Sol residents pay only $300 per year to heat and cool their homes and utilize less than half the water used by the standard Tucson household.
The completion of construction for the VISION House is expected in summer 2013. Green Builder Media held a ground breaking event for the home on March 25th which was attended by Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, Congressman Ron Barber, Builder John Wesley Miller, Architect Hank Krzysik and Green Builder Media President Ron Jones and CEO Sara Gutterman.
"VISION House is going to be doing something that we don't talk a lot about in this country," said Congressman Barber at the event. "And that is, the biggest way we can free ourselves from our reliance on fossil fuels is by increasing energy efficiency."
