ARLINGTON, VA, May 03, 2013 (Press-News.org) OSEHRA, the Open Source Electronic Health Record Agent, a nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating innovation in electronic health record software, announced today that MedicaSoft, LLC, has joined the OSEHRA community as a Corporate Member.
This follows the April 25, 2013 announcement by MedicaSoft that Mike O'Neill, former Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), has joined the firm as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). O'Neill, an expert in the introduction of new technologies into care environments, joins MedicaSoft after three years with the VA, where he was member of the VA Center for Innovation founding team. He also spearheaded VA's open source electronic health records initiative and served on the OSEHRA Board of Directors.
MedicaSoft partners with healthcare providers to deploy advanced health information technology solutions - clinical systems, administrative applications, and electronic health records - to improve the quality and efficiency of care delivery. An exclusive value-added reseller of Info World software and services, MedicaSoft develops and customizes technology platforms for providers including more than 100 current care settings on two continents.
"The advancement of health information technology through the use of open source best practices is a pressing challenge that will require many new software tools, skill sets, and organizational processes," said Dr. Seong Ki Mun, OSEHRA CEO and President. "We look forward to partnering with MedicaSoft to accelerate innovation in health information technology, both in the United States and internationally."
While at the VA, Mr. O'Neill led programs to introduce technology innovations and business practices in healthcare and claims processing in areas such as telehealth and VA's Blue Button personal health record.
"Hospitals and clinicians often struggle to adapt information technology in order to achieve better results, lower costs, and accurately document care. The power and flexibility of open source software can help achieve those outcomes," said Mr. O'Neill. "We look forward to working closely with the open source community to help providers achieve truly meaningful outcomes from their health IT investment."
OSEHRA's mission is to facilitate the improvement and maintenance of EHR information systems using open source best practices. OSEHRA simply and powerfully establishes an organized framework for users, developers, service providers, researchers, universities and for-profit companies to communicate, collaborate, and share. The codebase improvements developed within the collaborative platform are available thru a free Apache 2 license to the over 2,000 OSEHRA members in academia, industry and government.
