The comprehensive periodontal examination is similar to a routine annual dental examination. The condition of your teeth and gums will be evaluated and the dentist will carefully check for any oral health issues related to the teeth or soft tissues. However, comprehensive periodontal examination is much more thorough in that additional aspects of the teeth and gums are evaluated, such as the depth of the pockets under the teeth, levels of gum line recession, gum line inflammation and the condition and density of jaw bone. The periodontist conducts this assessment with a combination of visual examinations and imaging technologies.
