New Website Holidate Launched to Help Single Travellers Meet or Maybe Just Find a Holiday Romance

The world's first travel itinerary based dating site is here and it's just in time for your 2013 Summer travel plans.

2013-06-19
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, June 19, 2013 (Press-News.org) Holidate is the worlds first travel itinerary based dating site. Members simply upload their travel plans and search for others travelling to the same destination or find members visiting their hometown and share their local knowledge.

The idea for Holidate originated while the site's founder Tom Moore was living in Paris. After being given the enviable option by his employer to move anywhere in Europe he wanted Tom opted for Paris, even though he knew no one there and only had a basic grasp of the French language from his high school days. "It was all about the adventure. It's always an exciting and pretty daunting experience moving to a foreign city, especially when you can't speak the language and don't know anyone" he said.

"I was single in a new city so of course I wanted to go out and meet new people, but how was I going to do that? Going to bars and clubs alone lost its appeal pretty quickly, my lack of French meant the conversation would usually end before it started" and "Meetup events were fun but they weren't happening often enough" so Tom decided to try online dating sites instead.

"Dating sites turned out to be the best option. I could find likeminded people, communicate in my native tongue and arrange to meet up whenever and wherever it was convenient" said Tom. Interestingly, he found that the majority of members were either expats who had relocated for work or study, or locals interested in meeting foreigners. "So we immediately had something in common...a love of travel and international lifestyle" he said.

Tom also spent a lot of time travelling solo around Europe for work and thought why not contact dating site members in advance to ask about local travel advice and arrange to meet with them. "It was great, I could find out about local travel tips, like the best places to stay or which local foods I couldn't miss, all first hand from the people living in those cities. And I could meet locals, expats or fellow travellers and no longer have to spend time at a restaurant or bar by myself" said Tom.

It was then that Tom realised there was a real gap in the online dating market. With solo travel becoming increasingly popular and more people relocating to foreign cities than ever before, why not develop a dating site designed especially for an increasingly international lifestyle, an online platform that would blur the lines between international living, travel advice, networking and romance. Because shouldn't travel be about discovering new faces and not just finding new places?

What makes Holidate different to other dating sites, other than being targeted towards people who enjoy an international lifestyle, is that it features a travel itinerary match function. Member's simply upload their travel plans and search for other members travelling to the same destination or they can search for members visiting their hometown and share their local knowledge.

The Beta version of Holidate has just been launched but already Tom and his team have big plans to add some exciting features to the next version so stay tuned!
