LITTLEROCK, CA, June 26, 2013 (Press-News.org) Hooves & Paws, a local animal shelter, recently announced the story of one of its deformed animals, a chicken named Frankie, in the hopes that organizations and people will take an interest in bettering the lives of animals with special needs.
The feed store owner called the rescue organization after discovering the unfortunate chick in a group she ordered from a hatchery to sell to customers. Hooves & Paws took in the chick immediately, rescuing her from almost certain death and naming her Frankie. Since Frankie was unable to peck, Hooves & Paws specially prepared liquid food for the chick and nursed it back to health.
Frankie has required a lot of extra attention through the past few years. Her beak needs to be trimmed every couple months because of the deformity. She has also been susceptible to more colds and other illness so she has had many visits to our veterinarian. Luckily, Frankie has lived to be a healthy and happy 5 years old. She inspires everyone at Hooves & Paws daily with her positive attitude and ability to face even the harshest challenges in life.
Hooves & Paws is a no-kill animal shelter and rescue organization located in Littlerock, California that helps animals in need, whether they are homeless, deformed, or otherwise disadvantaged. At Hooves & Paws, animals are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve from a staff of trained and caring volunteers. They currently care for over 80 rescued animals at their sanctuary, including dogs, horses, potbellied pigs, goats, sheep, farm pigs, cattle, chickens, turkeys and ducks. You can contact Hooves & Paws in order to donate to the animals, volunteer, or to ask any questions about their facility, at (661) 944-3740 or at info@hoovesandpaws.org.
