PHOENIX, AZ, November 11, 2010 (Press-News.org) From 1924 until June 2009, the Macy's Department Store building located on Broadway in New York City held the distinction of being the world's largest store. Macy's also sponsors the famous Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade that has been ushering in the holiday season for over 80 years.
Macy's will soon have another distinction - owning the largest solar system on a single rooftop in the United States when the solar project for their online fulfillment center in Goodyear, Arizona is completed in March 2011.
SKY Renewable Energy is providing 50 percent of the labor with Silverwood Energy, Inc. on the new SunPower project at Macy's which will utilize SunPower's E19 solar panels, the most powerful solar panels on the market today. Since 2007, Macy's has partnered with SunPower to install solar power systems on 31 Macy's facilities.
"We are in the first phases of the project using two different racking styles," said SKY Renewable Energy General Manager Shawn Stutzman of the system that will deliver the equivalent of 70 percent of the 600,000-square-foot building's electricity demand.
"SKY Renewable Energy has worked with Silverwood Energy on a previous project, so it was a natural partnership when we got the call from them to team on the Macy's solar power system," said Stutzman. This unique project is also providing excellent training and experience for the SKY Renewable Energy team as they work with the cutting edge SunPower E19 panels on this fast-paced, construction schedule.
